Swim Milton, Swim!

Alison grew up in Bayside Melbourne and was educated at St. Leonards Co- Ed College. (Alison has never really been known as Dorothy. She is always called Alie; even by the children where she teaches.) She trained at Geelong Teacher’s College to become a Primary Teacher and lived in Torquay. After years of many jobs, including working overseas, Alie settled in Maffra, Gippsland, and worked full-time as a Primary Teacher. She retired from teaching in 2021.

As a teacher she was devoted to the School’s Literacy Program and encouraged reading throughout the school. During the Covid lock-down, Alie and the school librarian at Heyfield Primary would read a book every Friday so that the families of the school could zoom into the school’s new library and listen to a story.

She especially loves children's books and, when a new neighbour moved in next door with two Newfoundland dogs, a story was soon written about the enormous brown puppy called Milton. There is also a huge black one called Mabel, and perhaps one day soon, another story will be told!

Alie still teaches one day a week and helps casually when she can. She loves beaches, swimming, gardening and reading. She is part of a committee for “The Films at Bundy Inc”, so she can enjoy her other passion: Art House Movies.

Alie has a son, Cordell, who is studying in Melbourne, and family dotted around the Geelong Surf Coast and the Northern Beaches of NSW.
